Toronto will be one of 15 host cities for the FIFA men’s World Cup in 2026.
The Toronto Environmental Alliance (TEA is a member and founder of Reusable Toronto) has been part of a larger network of community non-profits, labour organizations and advocates who are working together to contribute community perspectives to hosting an equitable, green, and transparent tournament in 2026. Together our allies are advocating for an event that leaves a strong social and environmental legacy - through strong human rights protections for workers, community benefits, improved low-carbon transportation like transit, and zero waste initiatives like adopting reusable foodware at the stadium and public events.
We’re pushing to get reusable cups and dishes into stadiums as soon as possible but especially in time for the FIFA games in 2026. Major stadiums and events (including the Paris Olympics) are already doing this, there’s no more excuse! You can read TEA's comments here.
